Studebaker, founder by John in 1852 (soon joined by brothers Jacob and Peter). 20 years of business had the Studebaker leading the world as the largest producer of horse drawn vehicles, which included Conestoga wagons.

In 1902 Edison designed and Studebaker produced an electric automobile, and in 1903 they made their first gasoline powered vehicle, and shut down operations in 1966.
